Do you have some extra airtime credit you would wish to share with your friends or family members? Airtel has put in place several methods you can use to easily sambaza (share) your airtime with anyone in Kenya. You can conveniently share Airtel airtime through USSD code, SIM toolkit menu, or by sending and SMS.

You can share between Ksh. 10 to Ksh. 2,500 anytime at a cost of 3% of the send amount. The minimum you can be charged is 1.20 shillings.

This fee applies only to prepaid subscribers.

Therefore, before you start sharing part of your credit, ensure you have enough funds that will be left to cater for the transfer charges.

How to Sambaza Airtel Airtime Using USSD code *140#

To share Airtel credit through *140#, follow these steps:

  1. Dial *140# from your Airtel line.
  2. Select option 1: Mobile number to share airtime.
  3. Next, enter the mobile number you wish to transfer airtime to.
  4. Enter the amount (between 10 and 2,500).
  5. You will get a notification from Airtel that the request has been received.
  6. a short while later, you will get a message from ME2U confirming the successful transfer, and the amount you have sent.
  7. The recipient will receive the Airtel credit and another confirmation from ME2U.

How to Share Airtime Through SMS

To share airtime through SMS:

  1. Draft a new text message with this format: 2u [space] <phone number> [space] <amount> [space] <password>
  2. Send to 5050.
  3. You will receive notifications from Airtel and ME2U for successful transfer.

For example, to send 50 shillings to 0733456789, just type 2u 0733456789 50 0000 and send to 5050.

For first-time users of the ME2U service, the default password is 0000. you can change the password to any 4-digit number you want.

Here’s how you can change the password:

  • Compose a new text message following the format: Pin [space] <old password> [space] <new password>
  • Send to 5050

For example, to change your password from 0000 to 5678, type: Pin 0000 5678 and send to 5050.

How Sambaza Airtime Using Airtel Sim Toolkit Menu

  • From the Airtel Menu select Airtel Services.
  • Next, select ME2U.
  • Select Send airtime credit.
  • Enter the amount you wish to share.
  • Enter the Airtel phone number you wish to sambaza to. You can also select from the phonebook.
  • You will be required to enter the ME2U PIN (usually 0000 for new users).
  • You will receive confirmation messages from Airtel and ME2U.
