Through the Airtel International money Transfer (IMT) service, Airtel Money customers can send and receive funds from anywhere in the world. While receiving money from other countries is totally free, sending money abroad attracts Airtel Money transfer charges.
In Kenya, Airtel customers can send money, through international transfer service, to Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda.
The person receiving the funds should be registered with Airtel Money. However, you can also transfer funds to MTN Rwanda, Vodacom/ Mpesa and Tigo Pesa Tanzania customers.
How to Send Money to Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia & Malawi
If you are an Airtel money customer in Kenya, you can send money to other customers in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia & Malawi by following these simple steps:
- Dial *222#.
- Select Send Money.
- Select International Money Transfer.
- Select the country where the money is to be sent.
- Enter the recipient’s mobile number starting with the country code (eg 250 for Rwanda, 255 for Tanzania).
- Enter the amount you wish to send.
- Confirm the details of the transaction.
- Enter your Airtel Money PIN.
- Select the reason for the transfer and complete the transaction.
After a short while, you will receive a notification SMS from Airtel Money confirming the status of the transaction.
Note: The recipient will receive the transferred funds in their country’s currency. With Airtel International Money Transfer, you can only transfer a minimum of KSh 101 to a maximum of KSh 70,000.
