Since 2023, the Ministry of Education has abolished the traditional SMS system for checking KCSE results. The previous SMS service, accessible on Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom lines, was charging 25 shillings per message and was plagued with mix-up errors. However, the new KNEC KEMIS online results portal, launched by the former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, allows candidates to access their KCSE results online free of charge, and has also solved problems encountered in the old system.
Moreover, schools can receive printed copies of the KCSE 2025 results shortly after the exams are released. Any discrepancies or issues should be promptly reported to KNEC within 30 days, accompanied by relevant supporting documentation.
The KCSE 2025 candidates will benefit from the new grading system, where only 2 subjects are compulsory, that is, Mathematics and the best language (English or Kiswahili, or Kenya Sign Language).

The new grading system, which started with the 2023 KCSE cohort, is more favourable to candidates than the old one. I’ve seen some candidates move to the next grade by a few extra points, which would not have been possible with the old system.

How to Download Result Slips from the KNEC Portal
The results slips are availed on the KNEC KCSE portal at least a week after the school receives the whole results printouts from the sub-county education offices.
Schools can then download and print result slips from the KNEC portal www.knec-portal.ac.ke using the school’s login details provided during the registration of the candidates on the KNEC registration portal.
