Scoring a D+ or D plain in your KCSE exams may not feel like your best achievement, but it definitely does not define your future. Thankfully, there are a variety of exciting courses available at TVET and technical institutions that you can pursue. This opens doors to fulfilling careers and even higher education paths.

Remember: You can start with certificate courses and gradually progress to diplomas and even degree programs in your chosen field. Here’s an updated list of viable options for students with D+ or D plain, D- and E:

Artisan Certificate Courses:

  • Ideal for KCPE leavers or students with E or D- grades.
  • Equip you with basic skills in specific trades, making you an “artisan.”
  • Examples: Electrical installation, catering & accommodation, masonry, plumbing, carpentry & joinery, motor vehicle mechanics.

Craft Certificate Courses:

  • More advanced than artisan courses, providing in-demand practical skills.

  • Require at least a D plain in KCSE.

Marketable Courses for D+, D Plain, D-, and E in KCSE

If you choose to register through KUCCPS, some courses may require you to have a minimum grade of D+ in KCSE. You can apply for the same courses directly in KNEC-accredited institutions with a minimum of D plain in KCSE.
