Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) is a public tertiary institution registered under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST). Accredited by the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Authority, KIST offers practical technical and vocational skills development through artisan, craft, certificate, and diploma courses.
Additionally, the institute provides professional and short courses such as ICDL and CPA, catering to diverse learning needs.
Students can choose between in-person and online learning modes. Continuing students can access the e-learning platform for remote learning at https://elearning.kist.ac.ke
Minimum Admission Requirements
- Diploma: Minimum of C- (Minus) in KCSE
- Craft: Minimum of D+ (Plus) in KCSE
- Certificate: Minimum of D (Plain) in KCSE
- Artisan: KCSE certificate (grade E)
For new students, intakes are conducted in January, May, and September.

How to Apply for Courses at KIST
There are two ways to apply for courses at KIST:
1. Online Application through KIST Registration Portal:
- Visit the KIST registration portal (link needed).
- Fill in the required information accurately and completely.
- Submit the form for review and approval.
2. Application through the KUCCPS Portal:
- Apply for your desired course through the KUCCPS portal (link needed).
- Upon successful placement at KIST, download your admission letter from the KIST students’ portal.
Downloading Your Admission Letter:
- Visit the KIST students’ portal (link needed).
- Enter your 11-digit index number (without the year) in the admission letter search box.
- Click “Search”.
- If your admission letter is available, it will appear. Download and print it.
- New students can download and print the fee structure on the same page.
Continuing Students:
- Enter your institution’s admission number in the search box on the students’ portal.
- View your current fees and download the fee structure if needed.
Online Admission and Registration:
- Visit the KIST students’ portal and click “Register Now”.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for online admission.
Requirements for Registration and Admission:
- All documents must be scanned and uploaded as PDFs:
- Digital passport photo (soft copy)
- Birth certificate
- KCPE certificate
- KCSE certificate
- KCSE Result Slip
- High School Leaving Certificate
- ID/Passport
- Bank payment slip
- Signed KIST Medical Certificate Form (download, print, fill, and have signed by a doctor)
- Filled and signed Kist Declaration Form

KIST Fees
Diploma, certificate and artisan courses at KIST go for Ksh. 67,189 per academic year. However, students who apply through the KUCCPS Portal can be eligible for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans and Higher Education Fund (HEF) sponsorships.
