Forex Bureaus (Bureau de Change) in Kenya are licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) to offer foreign exchange services in Nairobi and other parts of the country. Forex Bureaus will buy foreign currency from you at a fee in exchange for the Kenya shillings. They can also sell you foreign currency in exchange for local money. CBK gives guidelines on operating Forex Bureaus in Kenya. Apart from being licensed by the government entity, the person wishing to operate a foreign exchange outlet in Kenya should have a capital of not less than $60,000 and also enough funds to cater for non-interest-bearing deposits of $30,000.
