How to Buy Airtel or Telkom Airtime from MPesa

Safaricom’s MPesa mobile money transaction technology has become something we cannot do without. It is simple to buy Safaricom airtime directly from Mpesa without a hustle, but many people in Kenya don’t know that you can also buy airtime credit for your Airtel or Telkom Kenya lines using Mpesa pay bill number.

You can buy airtime for Airtel or Telkom mobile numbers from MPesa using the pay bill number: 220220, provided by a third-party agent called Pesapal.

If you have registered for the Safaricom Fuliza service, you can even buy airtime credit for Airtel or Telkom using Fuliza.

How to Buy Airtel Airtime from MPesa

You will follow these steps to successfully buy credit for your Airtel number or another person’s Airtel number, using Safaricom Mpesa:

1. Go to the MPesa Menu
2. Select Lipa na Mpesa
3. Select Pay Bill
4. Enter the Business Number 220220
5. Enter the Airtel mobile number as Account Number
6. Enter the airtime credit amount you wish to buy and press OK
7. Key in your Mpesa PIN and Send
8. Confirm from the pop-up message that the receiver of the money is Paypal.
9. If you lack enough funds in your Mpesa a pop up message will request you to fuliza the balance
10. Accept if you wish to fuliza, and Send

If the transaction is successful, you will receive a confirmation message from CHAPCHAP stating your Airtel new balance.

Normal Lipa na M-Pesa charges will apply for transactions above 100 Kenya shillings.

How to Buy Airtime for Telkom Kenya Line from Mpesa

To buy airtime for your Telkom mobile number or another person’s number, the steps are similar except the part for account number;

1. Go to the MPesa Menu
2. Select Lipa na MPesa
3. Select Pay Bill
4. EnterBusiness Number as 220220
5. Enter Account number as Telkom mobile number (the number you want to buy airtime for)
6. Enter the airtime amount you wish to buy and press OK
7. Key in your MPesa PIN and send
8. Confirm from the pop-up message that comes, the receiver of the money is Paypal.
9. If you don’t have enough funds in your Mpesa, a there will be a pop up message requesting you to fuliza the balance
10. Accept and Send to complete the airtime purchase.

You will receive a message from CHAPCHAP confirming the transaction and your new Telkom airtime balance.
