Kenya CBE career selection pathways in grade 10 senior secondary

The Ministry of Education (MoE) in Kenya has provided details on how the 2025 KJSEA candidates can check the senior schools they have been placed in. The ministry released the KJSEA results on December 11, 2025, and followed up later on Friday 19th December and released the final pathway and school placement. Some 1,130,459 grade nine learners sat for the KJSEA exam from October 27 to November 3, 2025.

According to the Ministry of Education, this marks a crucial step in the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, as the examinations are designed to assess the students’ preparedness as they transition to senior school.

In the current grade 10 selection system, the grade 9 learners selected a total of 12 senior schools offering their desired pathways. Of these, 7 were first choice, 3 – second choice, and 2 – third choice.

The placement system also requires the candidate to choose, among the 12 schools, 9 boarding schools (6 outside the home county and 3 within the county), and 3 day schools within the student’s subcounty.

The ministry also points out that top-performing learners and those with special needs are given priority in their preferred schools.

The grade nine graduates of 2025 can now finally know the schools they are placed in following the release of the school and pathway results on December 19.

Learners have a week, starting from December 23, to apply for revision of the school and pathway placement if dissatisfied with the placement.

The ministry reiterated that the placement letters will be released before Christmas Day, and the first cohort of grade 10 students will be admitted to senior secondary school from January 12, 2026.
