Chuka University is a public chartered university located in Tharaka Nithi County along the Nairobi-Meru Highway offering a wide range of degree, certificate, diploma and postgraduate courses in various academic disciplines.

Chuka University has 6 campuses namely Igembe Campus, Embu Campus, Chogoria Campus, Tharaka Campus, Town Campus, and Egerton Campus (Nairobi CBD).

Business Studies Courses at Chuka University

Courses under this department are offered in all campuses and run for 4 semesters, full-time or work-based. They require a KCSE mean grade of C- or a Certificate in Business Management from an institution recognized by the Senate.

Architecture and engineering courses require a mean grade of C in KCSE plus a C in Math C, Physics C, Chemistry C, Biology or any group three subjects or any group four subjects or group five subjects C, English or Kiswahili C, or a Certificate in related discipline from Senate-recognized institutions.

Computer science requires a C- in KCSE with a C- in Maths, C- in Physics, and C- in Kiswahili or English.

  • Diploma in Animal Health and Production (KCSE mean grade C and at least grade C in Biology, C- in Chem, C- in Maths or Agri, and C- in English or Kiswahili)
  • Diploma in Meat Science and Technology (KCSE mean grade of C plain with at least C in Biology, C- in Chem, C- in Maths or Agri, and C- in English or Kisw)

Education and Resources Development Courses

Diploma in Education (Secondary Option)

Requires a mean grade of  C+ in KCSE with a C+ in at least two teaching subjects plus a C in English and D+ in Math for Arts, OR C in Maths for Sciences.

Diploma in Education (Primary Option)

Requires a mean grade of C in KCSE with C in the following cluster subjects: Eng & Kisw, Math, any Humanities and Sciences. Candidates with disabilities: Mean grade C- with C- in the above cluster subjects, OR P1 Certificate and 2 years teaching experience.

Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Development Education)

A mean grade C in KCSE, OR Certificate in Early Childhood Development or, OR PTE Certificate with at least C- in KCSE or Division 3 in KCE.

Humanities and Social Sciences Courses

Counselling Psychology requires a mean grade of C- in KCSE with a C- in English/ Kiswahili, C- in Maths, OR Certificate in
Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Education, Medical Health, or Social Work.

Other courses require a mean grade of C- in KCSE, or its equivalent, OR a Certificate in a related course from institutions recognized by the Chuka University Senate.

Requires a mean grade of C- in KCSE, or its equivalent, plus a C plain in English/ Kisw, Biol, Chem, and Maths/ Physics. OR a Certificate in Public Health or Environmental Health.

Diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics

Requires a mean grade of C- in KCSE, or its equivalent, with D+ in Engl or Kisw, D+ in Biology, D+ in Chem, and D in either Maths/ Physics/ Home Science/ Agri/ General Science OR Certificate in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from a training institution recognized and registered by KNDI.

Certificate Courses Offered at Chuka University

Most certificate courses require a D plain in KCSE or just a KCSE certificate, with the exception of Animal Health and Production (C-) and Hospitality and Tourism Management (D+).
