Open University of Kenya Courses, Application, Fee Structure 2024

Open University of Kenya, OUK, has opened doors to Kenyans (and East Africa as a whole) to access university courses virtually at reasonable fees regardless of location. Cut down on hefty accommodation and travel expenses. You can now study for a degree or post-graduate diploma course at OUK online and graduate without being there physically.

On August 3, 2023, the Open University of Kenya was awarded a charter by President Dr. William Samoei Ruto at the Konza Technopolis, located in Machakos County. OUK operates like any other university, but courses are delivered online.

OUK currently offers 6 degree courses and 2 postgraduate diploma courses. The courses are open to all Kenyans who meet the minimum requirements for the respective courses.

  2. Bachelor of Economics and Statistics
  3. Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Accountability
  4. Bachelor of Data Science
  5. Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics
  6. Bachelor of Technology Education
  7. Postgraduate Diploma in Learning Design and Technology
  8. Bachelor of Agri-Technology and Food Systems

Course Admission Requirements

Each course at OUK has specific subject requirements you need to meet. Typically, Kenyan students with KCSE exams need a C+ (plus) average grade to qualify. But don’t worry if you don’t have KCSE! OUK also accepts:

  • International qualifications: Diplomas or degrees from recognized institutions outside Kenya.
  • Relevant work experience: If you have experience in a field related to your chosen course, it can be considered.
  • Demonstrably equivalent prior learning: If you’ve gained knowledge and skills outside traditional schooling, OUK might recognize it through an assessment process.

This means even if you don’t have the standard qualifications, you might still be eligible to study at OUK.

How to Apply for Courses

To apply for a course at the Open University of Kenya website, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the OUK official website
  2. Click on Programmes
  3. Scroll down and click on your desired course
  4. View the admission requirements and if certified, click Apply Now
  5. Next, sign up for an account on the admissions portal
  6. Complete the form by filling in the required information
  7. Upload the academic certificates required and submit

Take note that students from outside East Africa will pay an additional 10% of the fees above.

If you apply through the KUCCPs student portal, you will be eligible for government sponsorship and HELB loans, which can be accessed through the HEF portal.
