TVET Approved Courses in Kenya

TVETA Kenya is a government education body mandated to accredit and inspect TVET programmes and courses, accredit institutions and trainers, regulate and coordinate vocational training and learning institutions, determine the national technical and vocational institutions, promote quality and relevance in programmes of training among other functions.

TVETA is governed by a Board appointed by the Cabinet Secretary responsible for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

TVET sector comprises of National Polytechnics, Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), and Technical Trainer Colleges.

TVET courses focus on hands-on market experience as opposed to memorization and theory.

List of TVET Accredited Courses

TVET diploma courses go for a duration of 3 years or modular with 2 industrial attachments Minimum entry requirement for diploma courses is C- (Minus) in KCSE.

Craft courses take 2 years or two modules with 1 industrial attachment. Craft requires a KCSE minimum grade of D plain.

TVET artisan courses go for 2 years with 1 – 2 industrial attachments and require at least a D- (minus) in KCSE.

KNEC is the main assessment body for these TVET courses.

6. TVET Professional Courses

These courses are mainly examined by KASNEB, apart from human resource management courses which are examined by HRMPEB.

  • Accounting Technician Diploma (ATD), (level 1-3), Minimum requirement is KCSE C- (Minus).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA1), (section 1 & 2), KCSE C+ with C+ in Mathematics & English, or ATD 3, or Diploma in any Business-related course. Duration is 6 months minimum.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA2), (section 3 & 4). Requires a Pass in CPA part 1. Takes 6 months minimum.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA3), (section 5 & 6). Requires a Pass in CPA part 2. Takes a duration of 6 months, minimum.
  • Associate of Procurement & Supply Professional of Kenya (APS-K). KCSE C plain. Takes a minimum of 6 months.
  • Certified Procurement & Supply Professional of Kenya (CPSP-K), (APS-K). KCSE Grade C+, with at least C+ in Mathematics and English.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP I). KCSE Grade C+ (with a minimum of C in Mathematics & English).
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP II). Requires CHRP 1 or Diploma in Human Resource or Degree in HRM.

CBET is a kind of learning and training that focuses on imparting practical and industry skills to enable the learner to apply the skills directly on the ground based on his or her interests.

It’s based on what the student is already applying but would wish to improve on it by acquiring better knowledge and skills\.
