TVETA Kenya is a government education body mandated to accredit and inspect TVET programmes and courses, accredit institutions and trainers, regulate and coordinate vocational training and learning institutions, determine the national technical and vocational institutions, promote quality and relevance in programmes of training among other functions.
TVETA is governed by a Board appointed by the Cabinet Secretary responsible for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
TVET sector comprises of National Polytechnics, Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), and Technical Trainer Colleges.
TVET courses focus on hands-on market experience as opposed to memorization and theory.
List of TVET Accredited Courses
TVET diploma courses go for a duration of 3 years or modular with 2 industrial attachments Minimum entry requirement for diploma courses is C- (Minus) in KCSE.
Craft courses take 2 years or two modules with 1 industrial attachment. Craft requires a KCSE minimum grade of D plain.
TVET artisan courses go for 2 years with 1 – 2 industrial attachments and require at least a D- (minus) in KCSE.
KNEC is the main assessment body for these TVET courses.
