KMTC Certificate Courses and Requirements

KMTC Kenya diploma courses

KMTC offers various certificate courses to students wishing to pursue medical courses but with lower minimum requirements. Most certificate courses at KMTC require a C- and above, with some requiring just a D+ (plus) in KCSE. However, you also need to have performed well in relevant subjects to qualify for that course.

Certificate courses at KMTC take 2 years to complete, with the exception of nursing which runs for 2 ½  years. These courses are available in select KMTC campuses in Kenya.

Here is a list of the certificate courses offered at KMTC campuses and their minimum academic qualification requirements:

1. Certificate in Medical Engineering

Requires Mean Grade C- with C- in English or Kiswahili, D in Mathematics and D- in Physics/Physical Sciences and D in
any one of the following: Chemistry, Biology/Biological Sciences, Electricity, Metal Work or Technical Drawing.

2. Certificate in Public Health

Takes 2 years and requires a Mean Grade C- in KCSE, C- in English or Kiswahili, D+ in Biology/ Biological Sciences, D in Mathematics, and D in any one of the following: Home Science, Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture, Building Construction, Technical Drawing, Electricity or Woodwork.

3. Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics

This course requires a KCSE Mean Grade of D+ and D+ in English or Kiswahili, D+ in Biology/ Biological Sciences, D in Chemistry/ Physical Science, and D in any one of the following subjects: Home Science, Agriculture, Mathematics, Physics, General Science.

4. Certificate in Community Health Assistant

Requires a KCSE Mean Grade of C-, D+ in English or Kiswahili, D in Biology/ Biological Sciences, and D in any of the following: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics/Physical Sciences, Agriculture, or Home Science.

5. Certificate in Community Health Nursing

Requires a Mean Grade C- in KCSE, C- in English or Kiswahili, C- Biology/Biological Sciences, and D+ in any one
of the following subjects: Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry or Mathematics.

6. Certificate in Health Records and Information

Takes 2 years and requires a Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili, D in Biology/ Biological Sciences, D- in Mathematics and D+ in any one of the following: Physics/Physical Sciences, Chemistry, GeneralScience, Computer Studies, agriculture, Home Science, Economics, Geography, Commerce or Business Studies.

7. Certificate in Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine

You need a Mean Grade of C- with C- in English or Kiswahili and C- in Biology/Biological Sciences. You are also required to have D+ in any one of the following subjects: Physics/Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Woodwork, Metal Work, Technical Drawing, Home Science, Agriculture or Computer Studies.

8. Certificate in Emergency Medical Technician

This course takes one year and requires a Mean Grade of C in KCSE. The course is available at the KMTC Nairobi campus.

9. Certificate in Environmental Health Sciences

Requires a KSCE mean grade of C- and C- in English or Kiswahili, D+ in Biology/ Biological Sciences and D (plain) in Mathematics. You should also have a D in any of the following subjects: Agriculture, Building Construction, Chemistry, Electricity and Wood Work, Home Science, Physics, and Technical Drawing.

10. Certificate in Health Promotion for the Deaf (CHPD)

It takes 2 years and requires D+ in KCSE, D+ in English or Kenya Sign Language and D in Biology. You also need a D in Agriculture, Chemistry, General Science or Mathematics.
