Here’s the 2025 academic calendar for pre-primary, primary, junior secondary, and secondary schools, as well as teacher training colleges (TTCs). These 2025 term dates for basic education institutions show when schools will open, close, half term breaks and holidays.
The terms dates also show the schedule for major examinations for CBC and secondary schools taking place towards the end of the year..
A total of five national exams are scheduled to take place. These are:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
- Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for Grade 6.
- Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA).
- Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) for Grade 9.
- Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA).

In the new school calendar, term 1 has 13 weeks while term 2 runs for 14 weeks. The third term, which is usually short, will take only 9 weeks.
Both the April and August holidays will be 3 weeks long this year, while the mid-term breaks for the 1st and 2nd terms will be 5 days. Term 3 has no half term break.
The December holidays will be 10 weeks long.

The 2025 school calendar term dates are organized by the Ministry into three categories: CBC, Secondary Schools, and Diploma Teacher Training Colleges.
Pre-Primary, Primary and Junior Schools (CBC) 2025 Term Dates
These CBC schools will open for first term on 6th January, 2025 and close on 4th April 2025 for April holidays. The half term is scheduled for 5 days, starting from 26th February to 2nd March.
Term 2 runs from 28th April to 1st August, 2025. The half term break starts on 25th June and ends on 29th June.
The 3rd term for 2025, starts on 25th August and closes on 24th October, to pave way for the four CBC assessments which start on 27th October.
Secondary Schools Term Dates, 2025
The academic school calendar for secondary schools is similar to the CBC term dates above. The only difference is the timeline for KCSE national exams, sat by form 4 candidates.
The KCSE 2025 is scheduled to run for three weeks from 3rd November to 21st November.

Diploma Teacher Training Colleges Term Dates, 2025
For the Diploma in Teacher Education for Secondary, Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education, their calendar for term 2 runs from January 6th to April 4th, 2025.
Here is the complete academic calendar for TTCs:
Term 3 starts on 5th May and ends on 1st August. Both term 2 and 3 take 13 weeks.
