How to Simply Send Money from Airtel Money to Mpesa

Initially, it was not easy to send and receive money between Airtel and Mpesa due to lack of mobile connectivity between the mobile money platforms. Now, with the Mobile Money interoperability service in effect, you can easily transfer funds from Airtel Money to the MPesa account of the recipient.

The money sent from Airtel to M-Pesa is deposited directly from the sender’s account to the recipient’s account within no time.

But before you start sending money from your Airtel line to M-Pesa, you need to register with Airtel Money first. Additionally, the person receiving the money must be a Safaricom customer and registered on the M-Pesa service.

The cost of sending money from Airtel Money to M-Pesa will apply.

How to Send Money from Airtel Money to Mpesa User

Airtel to Mpesa interoperability

You can transfer funds from Airtel Money to M-Pesa using the Airtel Money USSD code *222#.

To simply send money from Airtel Money to M-Pesa, follow these steps:

  • From your Airtel line dial *222# or *334#
  • Select the option Send Money
  • Next, select Send to M-Pesa
  • Enter the recipient’s Safaricom M-Pesa mobile number
  • Enter amount
  • Next, confirm the transaction details
  • Enter your Airtel Money PIN and press Okay

You will receive a confirmation message from Airtel Money confirming the transaction and your account balance.

The recipient will also receive a confirmation message from M-Pesa confirming the transaction and the new account balance.

Airtel Money allows you to send a maximum of Ksh. 70,000 per transaction. The daily limit is capped at Ksh. 140,000.

It is free to send up to 100 shillings from Airel Money to Mpesa.
