Rehabilitation Centres in Kenya Accredited by NACADA

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA)  has accredited over 100 treatment and rehabilitation centres  (rehabs) in Kenya to help your loved one resume normal life from drugs, alcohol and substance abuse. According to NACADA, the most abused substance in Kenya is alcohol followed by tobacco and bhang respectively.

NACADA encourages persons struggling with drugs, alcohol or substance abuse to seek telephone counseling and referrals by calling the free helpline service number 1192, every day, 24 hours a day via Safaricom or Telkom.

Services Offered by NACADA

• Offer training on the prevention and treatment of drug use and abuse, tailored for schools, workplaces, religious institutions and the community at large with the aim of preventing vulnerable populations from using or abusing drugs.
• Offer training on the treatment of drug and substance abuse tailored for professionals in the field of addiction.
•  Inspection and certification of rehabilitation centres and facilities to check compliance to national standards.
• Offer counseling and referrals for clients with Substance Use Disorders.
•  Research and surveys on trends in drug use and abuse .
• Coordinate enforcement activities on non-compliance to the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2010.

Cost of Rehabilitation for a Drug-Addicted Person in Rehab Centres in Kenyan

The costs of rehabilitating a person addicted to drugs or alcohol can be very huge, hence it is better and cheaper to prevent addictions than to treat the disease in a rehab centre.

NACADA estimates that drug and substance treatment and rehabilitation costs in Kenya for a standard 90 days treatment range from Ksh. 120,000 to Ksh. 500,000

NHIF services only support drug addiction treatment for all members with updated accounts up to Ksh. 60,000 only. Provided the facility is accredited by NHIF.
