KMTC Short Courses, Campus Offered, Duration and Fees [Updated]

KMTC short courses are offered in select KMTC campuses across the country. According to KMTC website, short courses are offered to individuals, corporates, or tailor-made for organizations.

Therefore you can enroll in one of the KMTC short courses to meet your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements and hence remain relevant in your profession.

To apply for one of the short courses at any KMTC College, visit the KMTC website (www.kmtc.ac.ke) and create an account on the portal. You can then log in and choose the option, short courses and follow through with the steps as directed on the portal.

KMTC Short Course Description and Target Group

HIV Testing Services (HTS)

The course prepares participants to provide comprehensive HIV Testing Services (HTS), strengthen linkage to care and treatment, and other post-test services, and define target populations who may particularly benefit from HIV testing services (accredited by NASCOP).

This course targets Health workers or anyone interested in working in HIV/AIDS programs.

You require minimum of a Diploma course in any health-related field to pursue this course.

Echocardiography

The course enables the participants to perform and interpret echocardiograms and ultrasound imaging of the heart and blood flow, and gain expert understanding of the latest scientific laboratory equipment including the use of the clinical skills laboratory and echocardiographic machines.

Targets Radiographers or Healthcare professionals with a background in medical physiology

Monitoring & Evaluation

The course provides participants with the requisite knowledge to design and implement healthcare projects to meet the populations’ health needs, and promote evidence-based decision-making. Graduates work with local & international NGOs, and public & private sector projects.

Targets Project Managers, Project Officers, Project Assistants, Health Information Officers, and practitioners involved in designing, supervising, coordinating, or monitoring interventions.

The course requires a minimum of a Diploma in any health-related field.

Healthcare Entrepreneurship

This course empowers participants to become healthcare entrepreneurs or to manage their healthcare businesses profitably. It targets Healthcare workers and those in the healthcare business.

Safe Phlebotomy

The course gives participants knowledge and skills to perform safe phlebotomy, provide quality specimens for laboratory tests, handle phlebotomy equipment and avoid occupational exposure.

The course targets Laboratory Technicians, Technologists, Scientists, Medical Officers, Clinical Officers, Nurses, and other certificate or diploma holders in health-related courses.

Infection Prevention

This course will equip participants with the knowledge to prevent and control infections in different healthcare setups.

This course is for healthcare workers, hospital support staff, hospital administrations, HTS counselors, and caregivers in general.

First Aid and Basic Life Support

KMTC short courses
KMTC students engage in a practical lesson.

This course empowers participants to prevent and manage life-threatening emergencies. The training follows approved international guidelines.

It targets Drivers, Hoteliers, Police officers, Security guards, County emergency/ Disaster teams, teachers, etc.

Sign Language for Health workers

The course prepares participants to communicate in sign language, helping the deaf access healthcare in line with Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

It targets Health workers and those interested in working with the deaf. The minimum requirement is a certificate in any course.

Foundation in Community Health

This is a foundation course for those interested to build a career in community health, such as Community Health Assistant, in support of UHC.

For Form four leavers and anyone interested in working at the community level. The minimum requirement is a D Plain in KCSE.

Medical Engineering (Basic Electronics)

The course participants will gain and apply knowledge to build, service, repair, and maintain various electronic equipment.

Suits for Technicians or those wishing to pursue a technician career with a bias to medical equipment.

Adherence Counselling

The course prepares participants to provide counseling services to HIV-positive clients, strengthen adherence to treatment, and minimize resistance to ARVs. (Accredited by NASCOP)

The course targets HTS Counsellors, Healthcare workers providing comprehensive care (working in CCCs). Diploma holders in medical-related courses or Social Sciences interested in HIV/AIDS programs.

Food Hygiene and Inspection

The course helps participants to source and prepare/handle food hygienically, therefore, reducing food-transmitted diseases. It targets food handlers –hotels, restaurants, kiosks, homes, etc.

Counseling skills for Healthcare Professionals

The course prepares participants to provide holistic clients’ care using counseling approaches, prevent burnouts among themselves, and improve communication skills and interpersonal relations at the workplace.

For health workers, social workers, community health workers, teachers, or anyone interested in providing counseling services. Requires a minimum entry certificate.

Nutrition in Critical Care

The course prepares participants to assess nutritional needs, formulate appropriate nutritional interventions, and apply an integrated approach to manage critically ill patients.

For Health Care Workers (Doctors, Nurses, Clinical Officers, Nutritionists, Pharmacy Technologists, Lab Technologists, and Community Health Workers).

Peadiatric Neurorehabilitation

Diploma, Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (OMT) Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in Physiotherapy. Targets Practicing Physiotherapists.

Women’s Health – Level I

Diploma, OMT, Bachelor’s Degree, or Masters in Physiotherapy. For Practicing physiotherapists.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Diploma, OMT, Bachelor’s Degree, or Masters in Physiotherapy.

Women’s Health – Level III

Diploma, OMT, Bachelor’s Degree, or Masters in Physiotherapy. Targets Practicing Physiotherapists. Must have completed levels I and II of the course.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

Diploma, OMT, Bachelor’s Degree, or Masters in Physiotherapy. For Practicing Physiotherapists.

Exercise Theory and Prescription

OMT Physiotherapists. Targets Practicing Physiotherapists. Successful applicants are normally sent to train in any of the 71 Kenya Medical Training College campuses.
